I'm Rafael Bruler, a marketing communications professional and aspiring writer. Born and raised in São Paulo, Brazil, my family and I moved to Peoria, Illinois in 1995 for a three-year period in the United States. Studying at a local Elementary School, it didn’t take long for me to be immersed in the American culture and learn the English language by interacting with and being lectured by native speakers.
I returned to Brazil in 1998 and finished my elementary and middle school studies, later pursuing a bachelor’s degree in International Business Management from Universidade Metodista de Piracicaba (Unimep) in 2007. Parallel to my undergraduate studies, I started my career at Caterpillar Brasil Ltda., a subsidiary of Caterpillar Inc., gaining corporate experience and building relationships with employees, suppliers and clients from around the globe.
After undergrad school and five years at Caterpillar, I decided on a career change, leaving the company and enrolling in two short-term programs in Public Relations/Advertising, earning a certificate in Account Planning from Escola Superior de Propraganda e Marketing (ESPM) in 2011 and in Media Relations from Senac in 2012.
In 2013, I was accepted to Unimep’s Master in Business Communication (MBC) program. Courses in Media Relations, Corporate Communication, Marketing Research and Strategic Planning, among others, introduced me to the role of business communication in private and public organizations. While pursuing my master's degree, I worked as an English Instructor at a language school, a great opportunity to sharpen my public speaking and presentation skills.
After concluding my master’s in 2014, I started searching for a graduate program abroad that would broaden my knowledge and provide practical training in the field. I applied and got accepted to DePaul University’s MA in Public Relations and Advertising, moving to Chicago in January 2015 for my first solo international experience.
This professional eportfolio is the result of my amazing journey as a PRAD graduate student and PRAD graduate assistant at DePaul University, featuring academic and professional work samples on behalf of real-world clients ( including Fortune 500 companies) and leading brands.
